Recipe from the Great Depression
2 scant cups Farina
3 to 4 tablespoons Flour
A little grated nutmeg
4 scant cups of Milk and Water mixed
1 tablespoon Butter
1 teaspoon Salt
Put butter, milk and water in double boiler, when hot add farina, stirring constantly to keep it smooth. Cook it until thick. Then put it over flame and stir until it boils.
Remove from stove and cool. This may be done in the morning. When your meat is done and you are ready to make dumplings add eggs well beaten, flour to hold together lightly and salt; a few gratings of nutmeg add greatly to the flavor.
Drop by tablespoonfuls into gently boiling salted water, and boil gently for 5 minutes.
