It’s been a while since I (as well as many other stores) was able to keep up selling books, since Amazon pretty much has the entire book market in the bag. But I wanted to share with you one of my very most favorite books.
It was given to me by an old-timer years ago when we first moved to Idaho (along with a car full of old Bantam laying hens), and I have found a valuable, though eccentric, friend in this old woman and the thought that the book was once hers often crosses my mind.
The book is Carla Emery’s “Encyclopedia of Country Living” and if you haven’t heard of it…well now you have. And if you haven’t read it, go get it! It’s chock full of good stuff like canning, selecting land, buying a goat, how solar power works. And it’s written like your old Aunt Bess is trying to get everything you ever needed to know about country living down so that you have a guide to live your entire life by…seriously. You should be able to find it at the library, a local bookstore, and most certainly Amazon.
Happy reading pilgrims!
