Dehydrators

Make your own jerky, fruit roll ups and yogurt right at home. Dried foods require less storage space.Dehydration is an easy way to preserve your fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and meat. Most of our dehydrators can be expanded to fit your needs by adding trays.

Dehydrators are a great tool for preserving the natural taste and freshness of everything you have worked so hard to grow. Dehydrating your food is a safe and tasty way to keep fruits, vegetables and even meats for long periods of time. We all love a productive garden and dehydrators let you enjoy your harvest all year round. Food drying, or dehydration, is a fast, easy and energy saving way to make healthy snacks and preserve herbs and other foods for storage. Jerky makers are perfect for hunters and homesteaders that process their own meat. By dehydrating meat into jerky, you preserve the meat not only for main meals, but for snacks and meals on the trail or during emergency situations.  We have a large selection of dehydrators to choose from with various capacities. Dehydrated food retains the color and taste of the original fruit. Everyone is trying to make their food go a little further these days.

About Dehydrating Drying preserves food by removing 80 to 90 percent of the water.  Destructive microorganisms can’t thrive without moisture and find the more highly concentrated sugar and acid environment inhospitable.  Home dried foods shrink to one-sixth to one-third of their original bulk, depending on the food.  The following fruits are good candidates for drying: apples, bananas, apricots, cherries, figs, grapes, plums, peaches, and pears. Vegetables that may be successfully dried include corn, lima beans, snap beans, celery, carrots, herbs, mushrooms, peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes, although tomatoes can be tricky. Dried meat or Jerky is possibly the favorite dehydrated snack food and is by all means the most economical done at home. All dried foods should be stored in a cool, dark place in tightly covered containers and checked periodically for spoilage.  Keeping time for dried fruits and vegetables is up to three or four years, although as with other foods, nutritional value is highest during the first year after processing.  Be sure to label your food and date it. The most energy efficient method of preserving food is dehydration. Food dehydrators
